Biography
Early years
Fred Durst was born in Gastonia , North Carolina . Fred was raised by his mother, Anita, since his father left the family when Fred was only a few weeks old. Fred and his mother eked out a miserable existence, having neither home, nor work, nor money. They lived in the attic in the church, eating children's food, which the congregation brought them. When Fred was two years old, Anita met police officer Bill, whom she soon married.
Little Fred loved the same music as his parents, and often fooled around dancing and pretending to perform in public. When Fred grew older, he and his brother Corey (the son of Bill and Anita) became Kiss fans.
Later, Fred's family moved from Gastonia , North Carolina to Jacksonville , Florida , where Durst entered Hunter Huss High School. It was here that he began to get involved in hip-hop and formed a group of break dancers Reckless Crew. He also became interested in the culture surrounding break dance, and when his mother bought him the first mixer, he began to engage in rap music. Fred taught himself to mix and scratch , and began to try writing lyrics for rap songs.
Soon, Fred Durst began to take part in rap competitions. Later, when the break-dance movement began to fade, Durst and his friends became interested in skateboarding . During this period, Fred began to listen to heavier music, such as Suicidal Tendencies and Black Flag, and to pay more attention to writing texts than to speeches, thus giving way to pent-up emotions.
In 1988, Fred graduated from high school. After that, he enters Gaston College for a short period. At the time, to earn money, Fred worked in fast-food restaurants and skateparks, was engaged in DJ, but he did not stay long in any job. As a result, at the age of 17 he decided to go to serve in the navy .
While serving in the navy, Fred marries his first wife when he was 20. Newlyweds move to California , where they have Adrian’s daughter. They ended up divorcing because of the infidelity of Fred's wife. Then the musician lived in a civil marriage with Jennifer Revereaux, she gave him a son of Dallas.
Durst returns to Gastonia and into the hip-hop scene, forming a rap duet: his friend was a DJ, and Durst stylized himself as a rapper, in the spirit of Vanilla Ice . Fred acquired connections in the music industry and the duo recorded a promo video showing their talents. But, unfortunately, the promo video did not help get a recording contract.
In the end, Durst moved back to his homeland in Jacksonville, where he began to work tattoo master. Fred Durst created a tattoo with the KoЯn logo on the back of KoЯn guitarist Brian Welch .
Career Limp Bizkit
The story of the band began on December 19, 1993 with the introduction of vocalist Fred Durst and bassist Sam Rivers, who brought his cousin, jazz drummer John Otto to the band. Then they were joined by guitarist Terry Balsamo, who, however, soon left Limp Bizkit . Replacing Balsamo, guitarist Wes Borland joined the band. In 1996, DJ Lethal, born in Latvia, a former member of the famous hip-hop group House of Pain, joins the group.

Russian citizenship
On September 1, 2015, Fred Durst in an interview with the radio station Rock FM announced his intention to obtain Russian citizenship [3] [4] [5] .
Durst later stated: “With the support of the government, my work in Crimea could lead to remarkable results. I will shoot successful films and TV shows in the Crimea, these TV products will become known around the world and lead Russia to a very high level in this business. I would like to help Crimea organize a large film festival and create a film studio so that films would be made there that will be successful both in Russia and around the world. These brands (film festival and film studio) will attract incredible attention of the world community to the Crimea and Russia. I want to be the first American to really do it in Russia. ” [6] .
Scandals and Conflicts
Live Performances
The presence of Fred Durst on the stage many times led to conflict situations.
The performance of “Break Stuff” in 1999 at the Woodstock 99 festival complemented the festival’s many problems related to violence and vandalism. Contrary to the request of the organizers of the concert to defuse the unstable situation, Durst told the crowd the following: “I don’t think you should cool down - this is 1999”. In response to the song, which later became a hit, heated fans staged an act of vandalism, tearing off the boards from the stage and throwing garbage at MTV workers. [7]
In 2000, at a ROCK Dysfunctional Family Picnic concert, Limp Bizkit and Durst were criticized by Scott Weyland from Stone Temple Pilots for an hour late on stage. At the same concert, when Durst came on stage, he burst out with insults to Creed singer Scott Stapp : “I want to dedicate my next song to the lead singer of Creed ... This guy is egomaniac. He is a real shit, and now behind the scenes he behaves like Michael Jackson. And when Creed takes to the stage, if necessary, there is a kiosk selling pillows and blankets. ” [8]
During the performance Creed Stapp replied: "You have to be bolder to say such a person in the face." [eight]
Durst was also criticized for his comments regarding the death of an Australian teenage girl, Jessica Michalik, who was fatally injured during a Limp Bizkit performance at the 2001 Big Day Out concert in Sydney . Durst said he was concerned about security a day before the incident, but no one was listening. [9] It was videotaped as Durst told the crowd: “Safety first, if someone fell, pick it up,” but later the coroner negatively said about Durst for his “disturbing and provoking” comments during an attempt to save Jessica.
Limp Bizkit left the stage after a hostile attitude of the Chicago public inviting fans to attend a concert with the Anti-Durst posters [10] . When Müller's fans came to the concert with such posters, openly scoffing at the singer, shouting and throwing disapprovingly, Durst broke out in a haughty homophobic tirade and left the stage after 17 minutes of performance. In the end, Durst ended up in court for breaching a contract (for an unfinished show).
Slipknot
Durst was involved in a conflict with the Slipknot group after vocalist Corey Taylor heard from a friend that Durst called Slipknot fans "fat ugly kids" in an interview with Spin . Sean Kreyen , one of the Slipknot percussionists, threatened Fred Durst with physical violence if he again criticized their fans, and Taylor later said in an interview for MuchMusic that he sees Durst as a great businessman, but not as an artist. In 2001, on the official site of Limp Bizkit, Durst spoke out about this evil attack on Slipknot : “We love Slipknot very much and are very happy that they hate us because it makes their music harder, meaner and real!” [9] . This statement angered Chris Fehn , another Slipknot percussionist. Fen later said that Durst "was scared of us ( Slipknot ) and he did not yet know that Clown (Sean Creyen) spoke seriously about his threats." Some time later, Fred Durst, describing Slipknot's third studio album, said that the CD is "the best metal album that has ever been released."
Britney Spears
In 2003, photographs of the paparazzi were published, on which Durst was with pop star Britney Spears , after which rumors began to spread that these two were found. Durst did not comment on the photos, and it was not like him - to meet with a pop singer. Later it became known that Durst was hired to help record and produce the upcoming Spears In the Zone album, released later that year. Nevertheless, during the appearance on TRL, Britney Spears denied these rumors, saying that he barely knows Durst and has no close relationship with him.
Fred Durst, appearing later on the Howard Stern radio show , said that although they had never met officially, they had a sexual connection while working on her album [11] . Fred also mentioned that after the appearance of Spears on TRL, he decided to prohibit the use of his work for her album, although a spokesman for Spears denied his words, saying that it was Spears’s decision not to use this material, not Durst.
Incited by Stern, Durst gave more detailed information on the radio show, including intimate information about the Spears body. Spears later said that she regretted having ever had anything to do with "such as Durst."
Several songs from Limp Bizkit Results May Vary were supposedly dedicated to this incident and its consequences, including the first single from the album “Eat You Alive”. The lyrics contained the lines “Hey you, Miss Too-good-to-look-in-my-side” and “I'm sorry, your beauty is in vain.” Although Durst refused to admit that any of these songs were directly related to Britney Spears, he leaked a song called “Just Drop Dead” to the Internet in retaliation for some Spears comments, and the lyrics of the song fit the events that occurred during the incident. with Britney Spears.
Sex Videos
In February 2005, a three-minute videotape of Durst, who had sex, was stolen from the hard drive of his computer and hit the Internet. Fred took this incident rather calmly, and some fans of the group suspect that the recording was posted on the Internet by Durst himself for advertising [12] .
Conditional conclusion
In 2007, Durst was sentenced to a conditional 120-day prison sentence for having hit two people in a car. [13]
