History
The Dnepropetrovsk Theater-Studio “Creek”, as a communal cultural institution, was registered by the decision of the executive committee of the Oktyabrsky district council of people's deputies of the city of Dnepropetrovsk on July 6, 1990 (Decision of the district council No. 293 dated July 6, 1990 ) , but for this at least a year performances of “Gaydamaki” and “Otpetye” “Cry” performed not only in Ukraine [3] .
The forerunner of the Theater of One Actor was the theater-studio "Creek", which was created by Mikhail Vasilyevich Melnik at the Dnipropetrovsk assembly college in 1987, whose performances over time became very popular among citizens. In 1989, the studio theater was provided with a room in the former museum of Komsomol glory named after Alexander Matrosov on October Square (now the Cathedral Square). Due to the lack of funds, Mikhail Melnyk had to independently equip it for the theater, make benches for the audience, backstage, lighting and sound equipment with his own hands.
By the order of Dnipropetrovsk city council dated May 4, 1993, No. 471r, the studio theater was given a modern name - the Ukrainian Theater of One Actor “Cry” was registered (Registration No. 5498 dated 05/04/1993) . “Scream” is the only theater event in Ukraine where the director is both an actor , and a screenwriter , and a music editor, and an artist , and a costume designer at the same time. The performances of "Creek" have become widely popular. Despite its compactness, the Creek tour does not come out often.
In 1994, Melnik was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine . And in 1996 he became the first laureate of the Les Kurbas Prize, the laureate and winner of the Grand Prix of the theater festival-competition for the highest theater award of the Dnieper “Sicheslavna-1996”. In the same year, Creek moved to a new building - the Architect's House, where the theater still functions.
In November 2012, the theater was given academic status by order of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine [2] .
