Orlov, Victor Vladimirovich (physicist)

Viktor V. Orlov (born January 14, 1930, Moscow) is a Soviet and Russian nuclear physicist , an expert in the field of physics and technology of nuclear fission reactors and controlled thermonuclear fusion [1] . Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences, professor . Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2005) [2] . Laureate of the Lenin (1982) and State (1970) Prizes of the USSR [3] .

Biography

He graduated from Moscow State University (1952) with a degree in theoretical physics. He defended his candidate (1958) and doctoral (1964) dissertations.

From 1953 to 1975 he worked at the Physics and Energy Institute , and reached the position of head of department. From 1976 to 1988, the head of the department at the Institute of Atomic Energy (IAE) named after I.V. Kurchatov .

Since 1988, he headed the direction of promising R&D at the Research and Design Institute of Energy Engineering ( NIKIET named after N. A. Dollezhal ), now his scientific supervisor is the coordinator of the BREST subject, a member of the institute’s council [4] . At the same time, deputy director of the Institute of Innovative Energy at the Kurchatov Institute and professor at MEPhI . Member of STC No. 1 in the direction of “Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Stations” of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” [5] and the Scientific Council of “Technologies for Atomic and Hydrogen Energy, Renewable Energy Sources” of the International Academy of Technological Sciences [6] . Under his supervision more than 20 candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences . In 1984, he was a candidate for corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences [7] . In 2017, he entered the short list (top 10) of the Global Energy Prize [8] . The outstanding physicist is VV Orlova E. O. Adamov [9] .

Married, has two children.

The author of more than 250 scientific papers, 10 inventions and patents.
