Biography
The youngest daughter is Jiří from Podebrad (1420–1471), king of the Czech Republic (1458–1471), from her second marriage to Johann from Rožmital (c. 1430–1475). She was named after her maternal grandmother, Ludmila Bavor from Strakonice.
In 1460, Jiří from Podebrad engaged his four-year-old daughter Ludmila with Georg (1455–1503), the only son and heir to Ludwig the Rich , Duke of Bavaria-Landshut. With the help of this marriage, the king of the Czech Republic expected to receive in the person of Ludwig a rich ally in the struggle for the throne of the Holy Roman Empire.
However, a change in Jiri’s political plans forced him in 1461 to terminate Lyudmila’s engagement with the Bavarian prince. Jiří from Podebrad decided to marry Ludmila to Lörintz Uylaki (1459-1524), the son of a prominent Hungarian tycoon and governor of Transylvania Miklos Uylaki , vassal of the King of Hungary Matvey Corvin . Thus, Jiří from Podebrad wanted to set up the Hungarian nobility against his son-in-law Matvey Korvin (who had recently married one of Jiří’s eldest daughters, Katerina ) and at the same time tried to get supporters to advance his candidacy for the Hungarian royal throne.
In 1464, after the death of 14-year-old Katerzhinna (Lyudmila’s half-sister), relations between the King of Hungary Matvey Korvin and his former father-in-law, King of the Czech Republic Jiří from Podebrad, worsened. In this situation, King Jiri returned to the idea of a marriage between Lyudmila and Georg , the only son and heir to Ludwig the Rich , Duke of Bavaria-Landshut. But due to the political isolation of Jiri from Podebrad in 1468, the marriage union with the Bavarian House never took place. Then the father tried to arrange a marriage between Lyudmila and the young Polish prince Wladyslaw Jagiellon (1456-1516), the eldest son of the Polish king Casimir IV Jagiellonchik , but this project was not implemented.
In 1471, after the death of the Czech king Jiří from Podebrady, his widow, Johann of Rožmital, proposed the Polish prince Vladislav as his successor. In the same year, Vladislav arrived in Prague and was crowned by the Czech crown. In 1490, after the death of the King of Hungary, Matvey Corvin, Vladislav II Jagiellon also inherited the Hungarian royal throne.
September 5, 1474 in Legnica, Lyudmila was married to the Silesian prince Frederick I Legnitsky (1446-1488). In 1475, Lyudmila and her husband went on a pilgrimage to Rome for the anniversary year . Lyudmila gave birth to her husband three sons: Johann II (1477-1495), Frederick II (1480-1547) and George I (1481/1483 - 1521).
After the death of her husband ( May 9, 1488 ), Lyudmila took up the duties of regency of the Principality of Legnica with minor sons in Chojnów , Legnica and Lubin . From her late husband, Lyudmila received a lifetime possession as the widow's inheritance of the city of Brzeg and Olav .
The Lyudmila regency ended in 1498 , when the eldest surviving of three sons, Frederick II came of age and began to rule independently in the Principality of Legnica , taking custody of his younger brother George .
On January 20, 1503, the Dowager Princess Lyudmila died in Legnica . After her death, the Brzeg - Olav Principality passed into the possession of her sons Frederick II and George I , who in 1505 divided their fatherly possessions.
