Archil Chokheli (1971? - August 29, 2012) - Georgian sambo wrestler, prize winner of the European and world championships, special forces fighter. Head coach of the Georgian national sambo team. In 2012, he died during a special operation against militants.

Biography
Repeated winner of Sambo competitions [1] . In 2012 he became the head coach of the Georgian national Sambo team [2] . In addition, he was a member of the special forces of the Georgian police, he was promoted to major of the special operational police center [3] .
On August 29, 2012, he died in the Lopot gorge in a battle with militants who, according to Georgia, infiltrated the country from Dagestan . Representatives of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation , in turn, stated that “there were no cases of crossing the Dagestan part of the Russian-Georgian state border by the border service” [4] . However, the law enforcement bodies of Dagestan recognized that the militants had really penetrated into Georgia from the territory of Russia [4] . In addition to Chokheli, two more Special Forces soldiers and 11 militants were killed in the battle. At the time of his death he was 41 years old [5] .
He was buried on September 4 in the village of Galavani, at the funeral attended by government officials, including Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and Interior Minister Bachan Akhalaya [3] .
September 4, 2012 was awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasal I degree posthumously [3] .
In 2016 and 2017, Sambo competitions were held in Georgia in memory of Archil Chokheli [2] [6] .
