Le Schiffre is a fictional character who appeared in the first James Bond novel, Casino Royale , written by Ian Fleming in 1953. On the screen, Le Schiffre was portrayed by Peter Lorre in a television adaptation of the 1954 novel , Orson Welles in a parody of the 1967 novel , and by the Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen in the 2006 film version of Fleming .

Novel

Le Schiffre, also known under the pseudonym "Die Nummer", "Mr. Number ”,“ Herr Ziffer ”and other variations of the word“ number ”or“ number ”in different languages ​​is the unofficial treasurer of the“ Syndicat des Ouvriers d'Alsace ”, controlled by the SMERSH of the union.
