The 2003 Marathon World Cup was held on 30 (men) and on August 31 (women) as part of the World Athletics Championships in Paris , the capital of France . Participants played a team prize in competitions for men and women. Medals in the individual championship were awarded as part of the World Cup.

In total, 99 runners from 16 countries of the world (54 men and 45 women) took part in the start of the team. Each country could put up to 5 people in each of the two races. Winners were determined by the sum of the results of the 3 best participants.
Japan was the first country to win the World Cup in both men and women in one year. In the women's standings, Mizuki Noguchi , Masako Chiba and Naoko Sakamoto took places from second to fourth, thanks to which they were ahead of Ethiopia's national team by 10 minutes. The sum of their times (7: 14.48) was a record in the history of competitions.
