The circumstances of the death

On June 15, 2016, Andrei Tymoshenkov, along with four colleagues of Major Serov’s group, was sent to the security station for humanitarian aid on the outskirts of the city of Homs , where three cars with food, water and medicines arrived from the Khmeimim air base . [2] [1]

According to one version of events, at some point the Toyota SUV began to approach the location, which did not respond to warning shots in the direction of travel. Andrew gave the turn on the wheels of the car, and she stopped; when I tried to get closer to her there was a powerful explosion. [2] According to another version, the terrorists rode on three off-road vehicles, two of which they managed to stop with targeted fire from anti-aircraft guns , and the third Andrei, ordering the others to take cover, destroyed with a point-blank shot from a hand grenade launcher , which caused detonation of the explosives put into the car. [3] [1] As a result of the explosion, four of Tymoshenko’s colleagues were shell-shocked [1] , but Andrei himself was seriously wounded; one of the fragments entered his nose and went through the back of his head [1] . In the hospital at the Khmeimim airbase, where the military was taken, the struggle for his life lasted a day, but was unsuccessful. [3] [1]

According to experts, at least 100 kg of TNT were in the terrorists' car, the explosion of which among the Syrians who received humanitarian aid could lead to numerous casualties. [2]

Memory

Tymoshenko was buried on June 20 in the cemetery of the village of Yershichi next to his mother. [1] In August 2018, a monument to Andrei Timoshenkov was unveiled in Yershichi. [four]
