Yakov Petrovich Zimerman (born April 26, 1988 , Kazan ) is a Canadian mathematician.

Biography
In 1990, he emigrated with his parents to Israel , and in 1996 to Canada. In 2003 and 2004, he twice won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad (in 2004 with an absolute result) [1] [2] . In 2004 he entered the University of Toronto . After graduating from the university in 2006, he continued his studies at Princeton University , where in 2011 he defended his Ph.D. thesis under the leadership of Peter Sarnak ( Towards an unconditional proof of the Andre-Oort conjecture and surrounding problems ). Postdoctoral studies took place at Harvard University .
Since 2014 - assistant (since 2017 - assistant professor) of the Mathematics Department at the University of Toronto [3] .
Major works in the field of number theory and algebraic geometry [4] .
In 2014, he was awarded the Sloan Research Fellowship , in 2015 - the Ramanujan Prize [5] , in 2016 - the Ribenboim Prize , in 2017 he became the winner of the Andre Eisenstadt Prize .
