Fred Vargas ( Fred Fred Vargas , real name: Frédéric Oduan-Rousseau Frédérique Audouin-Rouzeau ; b. June 7, 1957 , Paris , France ) - French writer , historian - medievalist [7] and archaeologist . Her detectives were awarded the prestigious CWA International Dagger International Award by the Association of Forensic Writers in 2006 , 2008 and 2009 . She is the first author who has been awarded this prize three times.

Biography

Frederic Oduan-Ruzo was born on June 7, 1957 in Paris. Her father, Philip Oduan, is a writer, her mother is a chemical engineer. Brother Stefan Oduan-Ruzo - historian, sister Joe Vargas - artist .

She graduated from the Lyceum Moliere in Paris . Since 1988, she worked at the French National Center for Scientific Research , where she specialized in archeozoology . She studied nuclear at the Pasteur Institute [8] . Frederick conducted epidemiological studies of Black Death and the bubonic plague , writing in 2003 a scientific work on this subject, Les chemins de la peste (Plague Paths) [9] .

Literary career

The literary pseudonym Oduan-Ruzo created from the contraction of the form of her real name Frederick - “Fred”, and the surname “Vargas” she borrowed from Maria Vargas, the character of the film Barefoot Countess , played by American actress Ava Gardner .

The elder twin sister Joel, was born 10 minutes earlier than Frederick, became an artist and chose the pseudonym Joe Vargas for herself.

Most of the books by Fred Vargas are criminal thrillers . Work on new works helps her combine her hobbies and take a break from science.

Her first novel, The Games of Love and Death ( French: Les Jeux de l'amour et de la mort ) received the prize of the French detective festival in the city of Cognac in 1986 [10] .

In the second novel, the main character of the writer appears - the commissar of the Paris police fr: Jean-Baptiste Adamsberg and his team. The writer's love for the Middle Ages left its mark on many of her books, appearing in the form of Mark Vandesler, a young specialist from this historical period.

The book Dead, Get Up ( French: Debout les morts ) was recognized as the best French detective novel of 1995 .

In 2006, her novel Three Evangelists ( French Debout les Morts ) received the CWA International Dagger }} Award. Two years later, in 2008 , she was awarded another prize for the novel “Wash this Blood from My Hand” ( French Sous les vents de Neptune, lit. Under Neptune'S Winds ). In 2009, Vargas was awarded the CWA International Dagger for the third time for the novel The Man Painting the Blue Circles ( fr. L'homme aux cercles bleus ) and became the first writer to be awarded this prize three times.

Views

Fred Vargas took part in the defense of Cesare Battisti , an Italian writer and leftist terrorist . He was found guilty of four murders in the 1970s, during the Lead Seventies period in Italy. ”
