The Russian image (magazine) is a Russian socio-political publication. From 2003 to 2009, the magazine was published by a public figure and leader of the Russian Obraz movement Ilya Goryachev [1] [2] , convicted in 2015 in the case of the Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists . The editorial board also included Komsomolskaya Pravda journalist Dmitry Steshin [3] , who was awarded the Medal of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, II degree, for covering events in Crimea [4] . In addition to him, the editorial board included the following journalists and bloggers: Andrei Gulutin, Anatoly Pomortsev, Ilya Plekhanov, Igor Kuranov, Nikita Tikhonov, Alexander Pisarevsky, Alexey Bezgodov, Elena Lyubimova. The poet Marina Strukova collaborated with the publication [5] .
Attracting new supporters, by 2007, the Russian image from samizdat turned into one of the most successful nationalist organizations with branches in Russian regions [6] . According to antifascists, the magazine "for a long time was the only more or less mass edition of the nationalists" [7] .
History
The idea of the magazine and the Obraz brand Ilya Goryachev brought from Serbia in the fall of 2002 [8] , where members of the Central Council of the Serb Obraz movement , deacon Boban Milovanovic and Mladen Obradovic gave permission to use symbols in Russia.
The first issue of the journal was published as a black and white almanac with a circulation of 400 copies on March 1, 2003. Ilya Goryachev got it on the horn, because Printed in the Old Believers printing house in the Perm region .
The 2nd number was released in 1000 copies. From this number, each issue has become thematic. The theme of the second issue was “Russian Village”.
3rd number in circulation of 1000 copies. was dedicated to demographics. Part of the magazine came out with a music CD "Srpska Zbirka br.1." Subsequently, all numbers were partially accompanied by music discs.
The 4th number was on the topic of Islam. Portal-Credo.Ru published an article [9] stating that a retired Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov is behind this edition.
On March 1, 2005 , the first RO-Fest concert was held at the Parabar Club at Chistye Prudy, dedicated to the bicentenary of the first issue of the magazine. At the end of 2005, a petition appeared in the rus-obraz.org magazine site in support of the wanted ICTY for war crimes during the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Commander-in-Chief of the VRS, Ratko Mladić, and the President of the Republika Srpska, Dr. Radovan Karadzic . The magazine’s initiative was crowned with a rally on Kaluzhskaya Square, held jointly with Sergei Baburin ’s Narodnaya Volya Party in the spring of 2006.
In 2006, the journal received official registration at the Press Agency, changing its status from almanac to journal.
The 5th issue was released in 1000 copies. and was dedicated to football fanaticism. The themes of numbers 6 and 7, each with a circulation of 1,000 copies, were “System” and “Total Control”.
Entrepreneur and public figure German Sterligov said in an interview with BBC that he received an offer to finance the publication of the Russian Obraz magazine [10] .
The 8th issue was released in early 2008 with a limited edition of 200 copies. This was the first full-color issue of the magazine Russian Image. The presentation took place in March, the group "Right Hook" and other musical groups spoke at the event. The 9th, final issue was released a year later, in March 2009, with a circulation of 2,000 copies and was also full-color. The theme of the issue was “Organization”.
In the story “Volunteer” [11] from the debut collection of Ilya Goryachev “Darkness of the Bolster” [12] , published in 2018, the author described the reasons that prompted him to start publishing with the journalist friends:
Oleg already wrote to Macedonia, then tried with friends to publish a magazine, which they called Russian Piedmont. People around you often asked the question - “Why do you need this?”. How to explain to the deaf from birth what is music? Generation of the eighties ... Growing up on the ruins of the empire, they acutely felt national humiliation. At first, this sensation was unconsciously accumulated somewhere in the subconscious. Over time, it crystallized in conversations around the fire and disputes on the Internet. This magazine became their attempt at reflection, their alarm, calling to gather together those who survived under the rubble of a collapsed empire, but continued to feel the phantom pains of its former greatness in the ideological desert of Weimar Russia.
He inherited the Modus-Agandi information and analytical portal, which worked from December 2011 to May 2015, to the magazine Russian Obraz. A curious fact: in 2015, the Moscow City Court during the trial refused to attach to the materials of the criminal case and consider as a proof a selection of 9 issues of the Russian Obraz journal, as requested by the defense witness Stanislav Byshok [13] .
On the basis of the established distribution network of the journal in September 2007, the Russian-Obraz socio-political movement arose [14] , the Central Council of which included a team engaged in the production and distribution of the journal.
The opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta today assesses the ideological content and influence of a small publication that young historians and journalists began to independently produce in the early 2000s.
The official ideology of the state and propaganda by 2014 became dangerously close to the ideas of the “Russian image” of Goryachev. Imperialism, revanchism, the concept of cultural and ethnic superiority, the aggressive imposition of religious values - all this became the language in which the authorities spoke, concerned about self-preservation and preservation of the current state of affairs after 2011–2012. The first channel today is much more like a nationalist leaflet than ten years ago [15] .
