Biography and Activities
Early years
Born in Harbin in 1927. Mother - Russian, father - Chinese, who fled from the events of the Civil War from Zhaoyuan County. He was the middle of three children. Orphaned, wandered early, then was adopted by the Lin family, which gave the boy the name Lin Gensheng ( 林根生 translated from Chinese. “Born to be a support”) [3] [4] [5] [6] .
At eleven years old he fled from his foster parents' house, in 1938 he joined the 8th army , whose commander gave him the name Lin Hu (translated from Chinese. “Forest tiger”). He was transferred to a support base in Shandong province, participated in the war with Japan [3] [5] [6] [7] .
Military career
In 1945 he joined the Communist Party . After the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II, he was sent to the flight school air forces of the People's Liberation Army of China ( Chinese: 中国人民解放军 空军 航空 大学 ). After graduating in 1949, he took part in the celebrations associated with the proclamation of the People's Republic of China , held on October 1 in Beijing on Tiananmen Square . Lin Hu flew over the square, piloting the P-51 Mustang fighter [5] [6] [7] .
During the Korean War of 1950-1953, he fought as part of the troops of Chinese people's volunteers , made flights together with the Soviet pilot V.I. Kolyadin (as a wingman), shot down several American F-86 Saber fighter jets [4] [5] .
After the war, he was deputy commander of the 18th air regiment, based at Shadi airport in Foshan city district, Guangdong province . In 1958, during the Second Taiwan Crisis, under the command of Lin Hu, two Taiwanese aircraft were shot down [6] [7] .
Post-war activities
In 1985, he was appointed deputy commander of the air forces of the People's Liberation Army of China . In 1988, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General of the Air Force of the People’s Republic of China [5] [6] [7] .
In the 1980-1990s, he was twice elected to the session of the All-China Assembly of People's Representatives (NPC) of the 7th (1988-1993) and the 8th (1993-1998) convocations. He was a member of the NPC committee on international affairs [5] [6] [7] .
In October 1994, retired. Worked on memoirs. In 2002, he published the book “The Battle for the Native Sky” ( Chinese trade. 保卫 祖国 领空 的 战斗 - 新 中国 二 十年 国土 防空 作战 回顾 ), dedicated to the operations of the Air Force of the People’s Republic of China of 1949-1969 [6] [ 7] [8] .
