Career
Minor Leagues
In 2009, Contreras signed a contract with Chicago Cubs as a free agent. In the same season he made his debut in professional baseball, playing in the summer league in the Dominican Republic. He began to play in the position of a third-base player, but during the performances for the Boise Hawks , the coaches transferred him to the position of a catcher [1] . In 2015, he played in the AA league for the Tennessee Smokies , and was recognized as the best player in the junior leagues in the Cubs system [2] .
Chicago Cubs
On June 17, 2016, Contreras was transferred to the Cubs main staff [3] . On June 19, in a debut game in the first exit to the bat, he knocked out a two-pointer home run . During the season, he showed himself to be a universal player, also taking the position of outfielder and first-base player [4] . He finished the regular season of 2016 with a hit rate of 27.5%, having made 80 hits and knocked out 12 home runs.
In the fourth game of the 2016 division series against the San Francisco Giants , he made a single, bringing his team two points and equalizing the score [5] . In the same season, he became the winner of the World Series with the team.
On April 2, 2017, he entered the Cubs starting lineup for the championship opening match. On August 9, he was named the best player of the week in the National League after knocking out five home runs in six games. On September 15, he received a one-match disqualification for throwing his mask, which bounced off the ground and fell into the judge [6] .
