Aschenbach, Hans Georg

Hans-Georg Aschenbach ( German: Hans-Georg Aschenbach ; born October 25, 1951 ) is a German ski jumper who played for the German Democratic Republic . Olympic champion, two-time world champion. Winner of the Four Springboard Tours .

Career

In 1971, Hans-Georg Aschenbach won the national championship and became a member of the GDR national team at the Sapporo Olympics. There he performed only on a normal springboard, where he showed a modest 31st place.

From 1973 to 1976, he invariably became the absolute champion of the GDR, winning competitions both on normal and on large jumps.

In 1973 he became the world champion in skiing , the first in the history of East Germany. At the 1974 World Championships , which took place in the Swedish Falun, Aschenbach became the main character of the hopping part of the tournament, having won two gold medals. At the same time, both on the large and on the middle springboard, his advantage over the silver medalist was more than 15 points. In the same season he won two stages and the overall standings of the Four Springboard Tour .

Due to a serious knee injury, Ashenbach’s participation in the 1976 Olympics was in question, but he was able to recover on time and won gold on a normal springboard, showing the best jumps in both attempts. On the big springboard was the eighth.

After winning the Olympics, he completed his career, became a doctor. In the late 1980s, he was the head doctor of the GDR hopping team. During the competition in West Germany, Hinterzarten asked the FRG authorities for political asylum, refusing to return to the GDR. He also exposed the doping system that existed in the GDR and admitted that he had been taking anabolic steroids for eight years.

Since 1993, lives and works as a general practitioner in Freiburg .
