History
On May 13, 1941, on the basis of the troops of the Volga Military District, the 21st Army was formed. About five thousand residents of the Stalin district of Kuibyshev (now the Oktyabrsky district of Samara) were subsequently sent to the front as part of the formed military association. For military valor and skill shown during the Battle of Stalingrad, the “Kuibyshev army” was named the Sixth Guards Army [1] .
It was decided to perpetuate the memory of Samara warriors by appropriating the area formed by the intersection of Osipenko Street with Novo Sadovaya and Lenin Avenue, named after “Heroes of the 21st Army”. The naming took place in 2008 at the initiative of members of the Samara section of the Council of Veterans of the 21st / 6th Guards Army [2] .
