Biography

Born in the village of Shestikhine. He was a serf of the landowners Sumarokovs. He had a younger brother Aleksei Alekseevich and sister Feodosiya Alekseevna (she died in 1896), who were part of his capital and family.

In 1817, while still a serf, he married his peasant daughter Anna Alekseevna Nikitina, from whom two sons Ivan and Andrei were born. At the end of the 1820s, having received his freedom, he came to Moscow. Initially, as a hired employee, he was involved in the sale of beer. Having shown himself to be a conscientious and efficient worker, he was sent by the owners to St. Petersburg to the brewery [1] that began to be built, as a trusted clerk from Moscow brewers. Together with him he moved his whole family to St. Petersburg. The plant under construction at that time was already the fifth beer production in St. Petersburg. Due to high competition, the Moscow plant burned out after three years. Moscow society sold the plant to Ivan Alekseevich with installments for three years. In 1836, Ivan Alekseevich began independent business. In 1839, together with his brother Alexei Alekseevich, he bought a second brewery for debts [2] . In 1845, Ivan Alekseevich enrolled as a merchant in the 3rd guild. In 1848, he bought a plot of land adjacent to the second brewery, where new malt houses, glaciers and warehouses were built to expand production. In 1854, Ivan Durdin moved to the 2nd merchant guild. He sent all the earned money to expand the business. In 1857, he received the right to depict on his products the state emblem of the Russian double-headed eagle, as evidence of its high quality. Durdin's beer was successfully demonstrated at national and international exhibitions. The chief brewer at the factory was Karl Radon, invited by Durdin from Bohemia .

Since the late 1860s, in addition to brewing, Durdin was engaged in the wholesale of bread, built a small vodka factory next to the brewery, and also maintained public baths. Business expansion led to increased profits. In 1863, he moved to the 1st merchant guild.

In 1876, Ivan Durdin with his sons Ivan and Andrei received permission to establish the " Ivan Durdin Brewery and Mead Partnership " with a fixed capital of 1 million 200 thousand rubles. Other types of commercial activities Durdiny stopped. In the form of Partnership, the company worked successfully until the October Revolution .

In 1873, Ivan Alekseevich Durdin and his sons, Ivan and Andrei, received letters of honor in raising them to hereditary honorary citizenship.

He died in old age on May 29, 1878 and was buried at the Mitrofanievsky cemetery [3] , where almost all members of the Durdins dynasty were buried.
