The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR ) is the largest biomedical research institution run by the US Department of Defense. The institute is located in the state of Maryland, north of Washington, and is a subdivision of the US Army Medical Research and Logistics Administration (USAMRMC) headquartered in nearby Fort Detrick, Maryland .
