Biography
Born on June 1, 1947 in the village of Sosnovka, Pruzhany district, Brest region . In 1963-1967 he studied at the Faculty of History of BSU . In 1967 he graduated from BSU , where he still works [2] . He completed oriental studies at the Institute of Oriental Languages at MV Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1968-1970 and at Cairo University in Egypt in 1971-1972. In 1970 he became a teacher. In 1986, he completed an internship at the UN Human Rights Center in Geneva [3] . In 1989, he headed the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the Belarusian State University [4] . In 1995, he completed an internship at Georgetown University [5] .
Full member of the International Academy of Higher Education Sciences (1993). Member of the Belarusian Academy of Education (1994) [2] . Member of the International Cyril and Methodius Academy of Slavic Education (2007) [6] . He was one of the leaders of the State Program of Applied Scientific Research “History and Culture”. One of the founders of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus [7] . Chairman of the Council for the defense of doctoral dissertations at the Belarusian State University in 1995-1997. He was a member of the editorial board of the 6-volume “ Encyclopedia of the History of Belarus ” and the 18-volume “ Belarusian Encyclopedia ”. Member of the editorial board and editorial boards of several historical journals ("Belarusian Gistarychny Chasopis", "Gistoryya: Prablёmy laid out", "Higher School") [5] .
Scientific activity
In 1974 he defended his dissertation “Domestic Political Struggle in Egypt in the First Years of World War II (1939-1942)” (supervisor - Doctor of Historical Sciences R. G. Landa ) [5] . In 1977, V. S. Koshelev’s monograph “Egypt to El Alamein: From the History of the Domestic Political Struggle (1939-1942)” was published, in which, for the first time in Soviet historiography, an analysis of the policies of the Egyptian authorities in the conditions of World War II and the development of the anti-British movement was carried out in the country, as well as the activities of WafD . In 1979, the journal “ Peoples of Asia and Africa ” published a review of B. G. Seyranyan on this monograph [8] . The review noted fundamental, a serious approach to the study of the topic, as well as the widespread use of not only Egyptian and Soviet, but also other foreign sources [9] .
In 1984, a new monograph was published, which examined in detail the latest political history of Egypt . In fact, this was the first in Soviet historiography a comprehensive study of the programmatic, strategic, tactical goals of the leaders of Egypt, various political parties and organizations associated with the national liberation movement of the Egyptian people over 100 years of history [3] . In 1988, at the Institute of Asian and African countries, Koshelev defended his doctoral dissertation "Socio-political struggle and the anti-colonial movement in Egypt (1879-1924)" [10] . Koshelev’s opponents were L. I. Medvedko , G. I. Mirsky, and L. A. Fridman [11] . Since 1990 - a professor in the specialty "History" [5] .
In 1992, another monograph of Koshelev was published in Moscow , dedicated to the history of Egypt at the end of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In 1996, under the scientific editing of the scientist, the popular “History of Europe” was translated from French. [12] He participated in the publication by the international team of authors of the fourth volume of “History of the East” in 2 books.
Explores the history of the Middle East , the problems of politicization of Islam, in particular in Europe. A series of works, including candidate and doctoral dissertations, was devoted to the socio-political history of Egypt of modern and recent times. For the first time in Belarusian historiography he used sources in Arabic [13] .

Rewards
- Laureate of the prize named after V. I. Picheta in the field of the humanities (1993) [15] .
- Breastplate “Excellence in Education” of the Republic of Belarus (2006).
- Francis Skorina Medal (2014).
He was also awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus in 2010 and the Certificate of Honor of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2011. In 2012, he received the title of “Honored Worker of BSU” [6] .
Family
Married. Vladimir Koshelev has two daughters - Vladlen born in 1967. and Natalia born in 1978 Vladlena graduated from the Faculty of Biology of BSU. As of 2017, he lives in Minsk and works as a teacher in a kindergarten. After defending her doctoral dissertation on history, Natalya works as an assistant professor at the Department of the History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages of the History Department of BSU . Vladimir Koshelev has a grandson, Vladislav [1] .
