Biography
Elena Peters was born in Turnhout , Antwerp , Belgium . From childhood, she was engaged in speed skating and represented the national team of Belgium at the 2007 world speed skating championship in the Colombian city of Cali . Elena Peters studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp, where she received a master's degree in graphic design . He began to train professionally in 2010 in Eindhoven . He is currently training at the Noord Limburgse Snelschaats Vereniging club in Lommel . Trained under the guidance of Margo van Dijk ( Dutch. Margo van Dijk ) [2] . At the moment, Peters owns Belgian national records in speed skating at 500, 1000, 1500, 3000 and 5000 m [3] .
Sports career
At the moment, Peters does not have any medals won in any competition. Her best performance was at the 2016 World Speed Skating Championships , which took place in the Russian city of Kolomna . On February 14, in the women's mass start with a score of 8.22.29 (5 points), she took fifth place in the race [4] [5] .
At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Peters was announced to compete in the 1,500 and 5,000 m races . However, due to poor health (suspected flu). The team’s chief medical officer and the head of the Belgian Olympic team decided that she would miss the 1500 m event and prepare for the next race [6] [7] . On February 16, in the women's 5000m race, Peters finished with a score of 7: 10.26 (+20.03). In general, she took 10th place [8] [9] .
