Cleto de Jesús González Wickes ( Spanish: Cleto de Jesús González Víquez , October 13, 1858 , Barva, Heredia , Costa Rica - September 23, 1937 , San Jose ) was twice the president of Costa Rica in 1906–10 and 1928–1932.

Biography
Gonzalez was born in Barve, Heredia Province, on October 13, 1858, to the family of Cleto Gonzalez Perez and Aurora Wickes Murillo. He was a famous politician, lawyer and historian. Gonzalez married in 1889 to Adela Erran Bonilla.
Don Cleto began his political career at a young age. He was mayor of San José, minister in the government of President Bernardo Soto Alfaro , deputy minister of police. He was also president of the Collegium of Lawyers [1] .
From 1890 to 1902, Gonzalez belonged to the opposition party National Union. In 1905, he was first elected president of Costa Rica. He ruled the country with great care, as he did not have a majority in Congress.
During his second tenure, from 1928 to 1932, González used the ideas of Keynesianism to prevent the consequences of the Great Depression. He increased government spending and expanded public infrastructure projects [2] .
Gonzalez died in San José, Costa Rica , on September 23, 1937 .

- Completion of the railway to the Pacific Ocean in 1910 .
- Publication of the first law on railways.
- Construction of the old building of the National Library.
- Initiating the publication of the Labor Code.
- The establishment of the General Prosecutor of the Republic.
- The foundation of the first national air transport service in 1932 .
