In 1977, Vladimir Shishin participated in the International Competition of Accordionists and Accordionists in Germany ( Klingenthal ) and became the winner of this competition, having also received the Champion of Europe cup and a special prize “For the best performance of a compulsory composition”. He is the first of Rostovites who won the First Prize at international competitions.

The impressions of the speeches of Vladimir Ivanovich Shishin were shared by a graduate of the Rostov Conservatory , Honored Artist of Russia , candidate of pedagogical sciences , professor , head of the department of folk instruments of the Tambov Musical Pedagogical Institute named after S.V. Rachmaninova Roman Nikolaevich Bazhilin:

At the concert of Vladimir Shishin I happened to visit once, in the 80s of the last century, but he was remembered for a lifetime. The concert was in the Small Hall of the Rostov Philharmonic. In the program of the concert, in addition to the original works, “Pictures from the Exhibition” by M. Mussorgsky were announced. I remember my student skepticism and critical attitude to the performance of this masterpiece on the button accordion. Then it seemed to me that the cycle definitely loses to the piano, and the evening will be lost in vain.

The concert began, and all my skepticism disappeared after the first sounds I heard. I forgot that the accordion player on stage. “Pictures from the exhibition” sounded and there was no any sense of the physical reality of the “manipulations” of the musician behind the button accordion, like all purely external aspects of button accordion. All that remained was bare music in its pristine purity, the idea of a masterpiece, its crystallized content. There was a feeling that “Pictures from the exhibition” Mussorgsky conceived precisely for the button accordion. Watching the performer, sometimes it seemed that the whole process of execution was happening within him. A deep inner concentration organically coexisted with an external restraint that does not interfere with the disclosure of the emotional world and the elements of unfolding music. Mathematical stability, rigid logic was present in every part. The continuation of the concert was no less impressive, as well as the performance of his own compositions.

After this wonderful evening, I more than once pondered the secret of Vladimir Shishin's performing success and once caught myself thinking that it was based on composing talent. Playing any composition, he is completely immersed in the author’s huge peculiar world, as in his own, and then it doesn’t matter what instrument the original was written for, it’s important that you are not a simple performer, but a creator and that you are present at the great mystery of the birth of Music [3] .
