Career

In the World Cup, Matyazhe Debelac made his debut in Chamonix on December 22, 1985 and immediately took eighth place. During his career, Debelak never rose to the top three at the World Cup stages. His best result was two fifth places, earned in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1987 and in Sapporo in 1988.

During his career, Debelak participated in two world championships. In 1987, at the championship in Oberstdorf, he was the seventh in the team, and in personal tournaments showed places in the third ten. At the 1989 World Championships in Lahti, he was ninth in the team and sixth on the normal springboard.

The pinnacle of a career for Matyazh Debelak was the 1988 Olympics in Calgary . There he performed in two types of programs . On the big springboard in the individual championship, Debelak was ninth in the first attempt, but in the second he showed the second jump and climbed to the third position, winning bronze. In this case, the silver medalist Norwegian Eric Johnson, he lost only 0.2 points. In the team tournament, the Yugoslav national team, for which Primoj Ulag also played, Matjaz Zupan and Miran Tepes, was second, losing only to the Finnish team. At the end of 1988, Debelac was recognized as the athlete of the year in Slovenia.

In 1990, due to the downturn in results, Matyazhe Debelak ended his career at the age of just 24 years.
