Biography

From the local gentry. Born in the family of a postal worker. The elder brother of the historian and writer Vladislav Lozinsky . Cousin of the historian and writer Karl Shainohi .

Together with his family he moved to a village near Sambir , where he began to write his first literary works in his school years (under the pseudonym Valentin from Smilnitsa ). In 1855, for patriotic performances, he was expelled from the gymnasium with a “wolf ticket”. An 18-year-old man moved to Lviv and began working in various print media, in particular in the newspaper “Gazeta Lwowska” (“Lviv Newspaper”), prints works in which his political position is clearly expressed. In his articles, he analyzes the events of the Galician uprising (1846), the revolutionary situation in Galicia in 1848 (" Spring of the Peoples "), for which he had conflicts with the local Austrian authorities. His works were censored, but this activates V. Lozinsky even more and he used newspapers and magazines to sharply criticize the Austrian government.

Creativity

V. Lozinsky is a popular writer of the mid-19th century. The author of a number of historical and adventure works that were admired, calling him "Lviv Dumas ."

His most famous story, “Zaklęty dwór” (“The Enchanted Courtyard”), was reprinted after the writer's death about 60 times and filmed in Poland in 1976. Best of his other works: “Szlachcic chodaczkowy”, “Szaraczek i Karmazyn”, “Czarny Matwij”.

V. Lozinsky in life was distinguished by a quick-tempered character. He fought several times in duels. On January 10, 1861, Lozinsky challenged the famous and popular Lviv journalist Karol Chishevsky, his editor-colleague from the magazine Czytelni Akademickiej. It was about a woman - an editorial staff member. Lozinsky was wounded in the temple and died three weeks later due to post-traumatic meningitis and blood poisoning (from an open old wound received in a previous match). The writer, mired in debt, was buried at the expense of the city. His funeral, which took place on February 2, took place with a large crowd of residents and the Polish intelligentsia of Lviv.

He died in Lviv and is buried in the Lychakiv cemetery . A monument to the work of C. Godebsky was erected on the grave of the writer.
