Biography

He began his military career in 1772 as a naval gunner, participated in the War of Independence of the USA on the side of the Thirteen Colonies aboard the French military ship Majestic from 1781 to 1783. In 1788, the sergeant left the service. During the years of the revolution, he enlisted as a volunteer in the battalion of the National Guard of the native department of Isere , and, having significant military experience, he was immediately elected lieutenant colonel. From 1792 he commanded a brigade, in 1793 he was promoted to brigadier general . In 1794, he received the rank of division general on the battlefield, but the production was not approved. He fought in Italy, defended Monaco , was dismissed in 1796, but during the years of consulate became commandant of Marseille .

From Marseilles in 1805, Bisane was transferred as commandant to Cologne , and in 1810 he was appointed commandant of the weakly fortified Bergen op-Zom fortress, located in the Netherlands , whose garrison consisted mainly of untrained and unreliable units. In 1814, a strong British landing landed near the fortress, which included elite units of the British Guard, led by the famous General Thomas Graham . Unexpectedly for the attackers, the battle for the fortress ended in their complete defeat. Having lost up to half of the personnel, General Graham was forced to retreat, and the fortress of Bergen-op-Zom remained under the control of Bizan until the end of the war.

During the Hundred Days, General Bizan, who supported Napoleon, was again the commandant of Marseilles , and then - the governor of Toulon . He was promoted to lieutenant general by Napoleon. After the end of a hundred days he was dismissed from service, the next rank of the Bourbons was not confirmed.

In 1821, he was an honorary lieutenant general, but did not actually serve; since 1833, he was officially retired.
