Barbara Anna Schaal ( Barbara Anna Schaal ; born 1947, Berlin) is an American scientist, an evolutionary botanist [2] [3] . Ex-vice president of the NAS of the USA (since 2005, member since 1999), professor emeritus at the University of Washington in St. Louis and (since 2013) his dean of the Department of Arts and Sciences.

Biography
Naturalized US citizen since 1956. Grew up in Chicago. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (Bachelor of Biology with honors, 1969). At Yale, both in population biology, she received a master's degree (1971) and a Ph.D. (1974). She then taught at the University of Houston and Ohio State University. Since 1980 - at the University of Washington in St. Louis: initially an associate professor of biology, since 1986 a professor, in 1993-97 the head of the department of biology, since 2001 a professor, now (since 2009) a professor emeritus ( Mary-Dell Chilton Distinguished Professor ) Biology and (since 2013) Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences [2] [3] .
