Orienteering World Cup 2016

The 2016 World Orienteering Championships ( Nokian Tires World Orienteering Championships 2016 ) is the 33rd world championship, which was held from 20 to 28 August in the cities of Strömstad and Tanum ( Sweden ). Athletes from 47 countries participated in the world championship. Medals were played in five disciplines (sprint, sprint relay, long (long distance), middle (middle distance), relay).

Competition Areas

Sprint Sprint Relay (Strömstad)

Urban area with narrow streets, small forest areas and small lawns. There is also an area with hills. Altitude 0-40 m. In the area of ​​the competition there is car traffic.

Medium Distance (Tanum)

The terrain is uneven with many skaal open type. Swamps of various sizes. Coniferous forest, mainly pine on the hills spruce and oak in the valleys. Mostly very good visibility and maneuverability. Some areas are more where dense vegetation and a younger spruce forest can reduce running speed. There are only a few paths and small roads to the competition area. Altitude 40-150 m.

Long Distance Relay (Strömstad East)

The terrain is uneven with many skaal open type. Swamps of various sizes. As a rule, an older forest with very good visibility and maneuverability. Nevertheless, many heathers enter this area and there are clearings and areas with young spruce, which can reduce the speed of movement. Also in the competition area there are large and medium-sized roads, trails. Altitude 40-200 m above sea level.
