History
The Japanese women's hockey team has not participated in the Olympic Games since 1998 (since the 1998 Olympics were held in Nagano , Japan, as the host, received automatic entry to each competition) [4] , but the “Japan Smile” became the first Japanese athletes who secured a pass to the games in Sochi [2] [3] , earning a place in Group B (along with Germany , Sweden and Russia ) at the qualifying tournament in Slovakia in February 2013. Remarkably, since February 2012, Canadian hockey player and two-time Olympic champion of the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Games , Carla Macleod, have been working as an assistant coach.
