A student at a state academy that trained senior Chinese officials. He studied books, wrote a lot, in 1615 he compiled a dictionary 《字 彙》 (Hieroglyphic Glossary). The dictionary data was systematized according to the keys, the list of which was compiled on the basis of the well-known dictionary 说文解字 (shuōwén jiězì) "The Origin of Chinese Characters", and amounted to 214 keys, instead of 540. Further, this list was used in the dictionaries 《正字 通》 (Spelling Basics , 1625) and 《康熙字典》 (Kangxi Dictionary, 1716)
