History
In the “List of populated places of the Saratov province according to 1859,” the settlement is mentioned as the owner village of Brovtsyno ( Urvanovka ), Atkarsk district (1 st camp) near the Bolshaya Kolyshley river, located 18 versts from the county city of Atkarsk . There were 20 households in the village and there were 159 inhabitants (77 men and 82 women) [2] .
According to the “List of Populated Places of Atkarsky Uezd” of the 1914 edition (according to information for 1911), in Brovtsyn , belonging to the Varypayevsky volost, there were 39 farms and 247 people (124 men and 123 women) lived. Great Russians prevailed in the national composition of the population [3] .
Geography
The village is located in the eastern part of the district, within the Volga Upland , on the left bank of the Elshanka River (a tributary of the Big Kolyshley River ), at a distance of about 16 kilometers (as the crow flies) to the East-South-East (ESE) from the city of Atkarsk . The absolute height is 184 meters above sea level [4] .
