Mexican-Tanzanian relationship

Mexican-Tanzanian relations are bilateral diplomatic relations between Mexico and Tanzania . Both countries are members of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization .

History

Mexico and Tanzania established diplomatic relations on February 19, 1973. [1] [2] In the same year, Mexico opened an embassy in the capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam . [1] In April 1975, the President of Tanzania, Julius Cambarage Nyerere, paid a six-day official visit to Mexico. [3] During his visit, he met with Mexican President Luis Echeverria , where they discussed issues facing Africa at that time. In addition, President Nyerere asked Mexico to take an active role in helping Tanzania build infrastructure in his new capital city, Dodoma , allowing Tanzanian architects, planners and students to come and study at Mexican universities, and Mexican technicians to go to Tanzania to work on developing new projects in the country. [3] Agreements were signed between the two presidents to deepen agricultural and trade relations between the two countries. [3]

In July 1975, Mexican President Luis Echeverria Alvarez paid a four-day state visit to Tanzania [4] . During the visit, the President visited the Serengeti National Park and the new capital, the city of Dodoma [4] . Both countries signed an agreement to increase scholarships for student education in the amount of up to 30 people for each country, and an agreement to increase state financial assistance to Tanzanians living in Mexico [4] . In 1980, Mexico closed the embassy in Tanzania due to financial constraints. [1]
