109 walkers from 9 countries of the world (71 men and 38 women) took to the start.

Each team could put up to four athletes in each of the calls. In the offset of the Lugano Cup, each team had the best two results at distances of 20 and 50 km for men (points were awarded to athletes depending on the place taken).

The USSR team won their first victory in the Lugano Cup. The success was preceded by a series of three consecutive second places.

Evgeny Lyungin won the run at 50 km. In the future, not a single Soviet walker could repeat his success at the longest distance of the World Cup.
