Christine Marion Elisabeth Gouachel-Béranger ( French Christine Marion Elisabeth Goitschel-Béranger ; born June 9, 1944 , Saint-Maxim ) is a French skier , specialist in slalom and giant slalom . Represented the French alpine skiing team in 1962-1968, champion and silver medalist of the Winter Olympic Games in Innsbruck , world champion, winner of the World Cup, three-time champion of the French national championship.

Biography

Christine Gouchelier was born on June 9, 1944 in the commune of Saint-Maxim, department of Var , France . She began to seriously engage in skiing from early childhood, she trained with her younger sister Mariel , who also became a well-known skier. Their third sister, Patricia, was the French junior champion.

First announced itself in 1962, becoming the champion of France in slalom and getting into the main team of the French national team.

Thanks to a series of successful appearances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck - in the slalom program she outscored all her rivals in the sum of two attempts, and thereby won the gold Olympic medal, while in the giant slalom she won silver, only her sister was allowed to go ahead Marielle (this was the first time in the history of the Olympic Games when two sisters climbed one podium). In addition, since the World Ski Championship was also played at these Games, she additionally became the world champion [1] .

After the Innsbruck Olympics, Guashel remained in the main ski team in France and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 1966, she visited the World Cup in Portillo , where she showed the sixth result in slalom. With the advent of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1967, she immediately became an active participant in it, in particular, she won the giant slalom at the stage in American Franconia, closed the top ten in the overall classification of all disciplines.

Considered as a candidate for participation in the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble , however, she was seriously injured and was forced to end her sports career.

She was married to her coach Jean Beranger, since 1970, the couple have been involved in the development of the Val Thorens ski resort. Later proved to be a publisher of sports magazines [2] .

For outstanding sports achievements in 1995 she was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor , in 2009 she was promoted to officer of the order [3] .
