The Promised Land ( Polish: Ziemia obiecana ) is a novel by the Polish writer Vladislav Reymont , written in 1897-1898 and published in 1899. The work describes the life of industrialists in Lodz of the 80s of the XIX century.

About the work
The novel reflects the features of life, life, personal relationships, cooperation and the work of industrialists in the city of Lodz . In the city there are many enterprises for the manufacture and processing of fabrics. The novel raises questions such as: the Jewish question , the state of gentry and intercultural relations in Poland at the turn of the 19th century.
Story
The main characters Karol Borovetsky, Max Baum and Moritsa Velt, having met while studying in Riga , decide to build their own factory. Having overcome a number of pressing problems, three comrades implemented their plan. But did all the goals and desires remain as they were at the beginning?
Writers Protest
Also, like the Kukla novel, it is a reflection of the protest and resistance of Polish writers caused by the actions of the tsarist government after the uprising was suppressed (1863-1864) . Russians are not mentioned in the novel, although a substantial part of the population, as well as the Lodz administration, consisted of Russians.
In popular culture
Based on the novel, a film of the same name was shot in 1974.
