Natalia Correa

Natalia de Oliveira Correia ( port of Natália de Oliveira Correia , September 13, 1923 , Fažen di Baixu , São Miguel - March 16 , 1993 , Lisbon ) - Portuguese writer and poetess. Member of the National Assembly (1980-1991), politician in the field of culture, the protection of human rights and women's rights. The author of the anthem of the Azores. Together with Jose Saramago (Nobel Prize in Literature, 1998), Arminda Magagliaynsh, Manuel da Fonseca and Urban Tavares Rodrigues was in 1992 one of the founders of the National Front for the Protection of Culture (NFZK). The library in Lisbon is named after her.

The work of Natalia Correia extends in different genres: from poetry to romance, theater and essays. She often collaborated in several Portuguese and foreign publications. During the 1950s and 1960s, the most prominent figures of Portuguese as well as international culture, art, writing, and opposition politics gathered at her home in Lisbon. Since 1971, these meetings have been held at the Botequim bar. Natalia Correia was known for her energetic and controversial nature, free of social conventions, as reflected in her letter. Her work has been translated into several languages.
