Crystal Kranz was born in 1914 in Brussels. After the outbreak of World War I, the family moved to Reutlingen , where Krystle learned to ski.
Kranz studied as a philologist, which did not stop her from making a successful sports career. In 1934, he won two gold and silver at the World Championships in St. Moritz . From all the world championships in which she participated (the German team boycotted the 1936 World Cup in Austria), the German brought at least two gold each, and in 1937 in Chamonix and in 1939 in Zakopane she even became the absolute world champion.
In 1936, Kranz became the first Olympic champion in alpine skiing in history, winning competitions in combination. After the downhill, she was sixth, losing 16 seconds to Norwegian Shu Nielsen , but in two slalom attempts she showed the best result and was able to compensate for her backlog.
She ended her career in 1941, after two gold medals at the World Cup , the results of which were later canceled.
After the Olympics, Krystle became the face of the German Girls Union . In 1943, she married fighter pilot Adolf Borchers. The brother of the athlete Rudy Krantz was also a skier, participated in the 1936 Olympics, died on June 22, 1941 on the eastern front.
