Career
In 2004, Maldonado was selected at the Anaheim Angels draft in the 27th round. Until 2006, he played for the Angels subsidiary teams in the rookie leagues and then received the status of a free agent.
In 2007, he signed a junior league contract with Milwaukee Brewers and played the season in League A for West Virginia Power. In 2008, he played for the Brevard County Manaties and Huntsville Stars. In 2009, he first played in the AAA League for the Nashville Sounds. September 3, 2011 he made his debut in Major League Baseball as part of the Brewers.
In May 2012, he was again called up to the Brewers instead of injured Jonathan Lucroy . He played 78 matches in the championship for the team.
In 2013, as part of the national team, Puerto Rico became the silver medalist of the World Baseball Classics .
On May 31, 2015, in a match with Arizona , he knocked out a home run walk-off in the 17th inning .
December 13, 2016 was traded to the Los Angeles Angels , where he took the place of the starting catcher. In the 2017 season, he played 138 matches and received the Golden Glove to the best defense catcher in the game.
On July 26, 2018, Martin was exchanged at Houston Astros for pitcher Patrick Sandoval and cash from the budget of international signatures. At the time of the transition, Maldonado was the best catcher of the League in terms of the percentage of opponent’s runners caught stealing the base (44.4%) [1] .
