Biography
Alexei Nikolaevich Chumachenko was born on October 24, 1960 in the village of Elenovka, Perevalsky District, Voroshilovgrad Region, Ukrainian SSR. In 1978 he graduated from high school, then he served in the army for two years.
In 1986 he graduated from the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics of the Geographical Department of Moscow State University . In 1990 he defended his thesis on "Automated creation of nature maps based on the interpretation of scanner space images" [1] .
From 1991 to 1993, Alexey Nikolaevich worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Geomorphology and Geoecology of SSU, and from 1993 to 2001 was an assistant professor at the same department. In 2001 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Ecological and geographical mapping of cities" [2] .
From 2001 to 2013, Chumachenko was the head of the department of geomorphology and geoecology. From 2003 to 2011 he was also the dean of the Faculty of Geography. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as vice-rector for innovation. In 2013, he became rector of the university [3] [4] [5] .
Member of the expert commission of the board of trustees of the Russian Geographical Society [6] .
Married, has three children.
