Career

Michel Gizin was born in 1993 in a sports family. Her older sister Dominica is an Olympic champion in Sochi downhill . Brother Mark is also a famous skier, a participant in the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Since 2008, Michelle has been competing under the auspices of the FIS . At the beginning of 2012 at the World Junior Championships she won a silver medal in slalom. She made her World Cup debut on December 29, 2012 on slalom in the Austrian Semmering . In the first descent, the Swiss showed the 17th result, but in the second attempt she could not cope with the track and left. Two weeks later, Flachau first hit the top ten, becoming the ninth in slalom.

She made her world debut in 2013 and became the 26th in slalom and the ninth in the team tournament. In 2014 she made her debut at the Olympic Games . In Sochi, the Swiss performed only in slalom and showed 28th place.

The first podium of her career was won on December 16, 2016 in a super combination at the stage in Val d'Isere . In the same season, she became the world vice champion in combination, losing only to teammate Wendy Holdener .

In the Olympic season, Gizin twice hit the podium of the World Cup stages, both times in high-speed disciplines. At the Olympics in Pyeongchang, she performed in four types of programs. It was the eighth in the downhill, and the ninth in the super giant . In slalom, she showed the 16th result. But in combination, the Swiss was out of competition. Having shown the third time in downhill and the fourth in slalom, she became the Olympic champion, almost an second ahead of American Michaela Shiffrin .
