Citarines [1] ( lat. Citharinus ) is a genus of fresh-water ray-finned fish from the family of characteristic cytarin squads. Distributed in Africa . They are of great commercial importance.

Description

The body is tall, lyre-shaped, squeezed laterally, covered with cycloid scales . The scales are relatively small, more than 60 scales in the lateral line, more than 12 rows between the lateral line and ventral fins. The maxillary bone is reduced, there are no teeth on it. In the dorsal fin 17-23 soft branched rays. Anal fin 23–31 soft rays. The pectoral fins are short; their length is half the length of the head. The ventral fins are longer than the pectoral fins, with numerous rays. There is a fat fin . The caudal fin is bifurcated. The main species distinctive features: the number of scales in the lateral line, the distance between the fat and dorsal fins, the number of rays in the anal fin [2] . The maximum standard body length is 84 cm in Citharinus latus [3] .
