Muzakion [3] ( Greek Μουζάκιον [2] ή Μουζάκι ) is a small town in Greece . Located at an altitude of 180 meters above sea level [1] , on the left bank of the Pamisos River ( Greek Πάμισος ) [4] , a tributary of Pinyos , 240 kilometers northwest of Athens , 173 kilometers southwest of Thessaloniki , 24 kilometers northwest of Karditsa , 17 kilometers southwest of Trikala and 69 kilometers southwest of Larisa . The administrative center of the community of the same name (Dima) in the peripheral unit of Karditsa in the periphery of Thessaly . The population of 1961 is a 2011 census resident. [2] An area of 10.302 square kilometers [1] . Residents are predominantly employed in agriculture.

To the north and east of the city runs the national road 30 Arta - Hair .
History
At 2 kilometers northeast in Gestieotid [5] , on the border with Epirus was the ancient fortified city of Gomfy, now the village of Gomfi . Gomphs defended the path to the ancient city of Ambracia , now Arta, and to the ancient city of Argitea ( Αργιθέα ) [6] [7] , the capital of Afamania [8] . Gomphs were founded in the 4th century BC. e., minted their coin. In 198 BC e. Gomphs captured Aminander , king of Afamania, in 191-185 BC e. - King Philip V of Macedon , and in 48 BC e. during the civil war in ancient Rome - the Roman dictator Guy Julius Caesar . Caesar destroyed the Gomphs [9] . Justinian I in the VI century restored the Gomphs [4] .
During the occupation of Greece by the Axis countries in 1943, Muzakion was burned.
