Cliff Kushler (another Cliff Kushler spelling in Russian - Kushler ; born in Seattle , Washington , USA ) is an American engineer, inventor and entrepreneur, one of the founders of Tegic, the company that created T9 - an input prediction algorithm used on mobile devices, and Swype , engaged in the technology of using movements when typing words on keyboards with a touch screen [1] . Previously, he also founded Exbiblio [2] and worked on creating a product that would allow people to communicate with dolphins. Kashler is the author of 14 US patents [3] (according to other sources, 17), many patents in other countries, as well as more than one pending patent application.
Cliff Kashler studied at the University of Michigan , which he did not graduate from, as he received a scholarship to study at the University of Tokyo , which he graduated from. [1] He holds two degrees, a Master in Computer Science (University of Michigan) and a Computer Engineering (University of Tokyo). Fluent in Japanese. [4] [5]
Kashler was vice president of research and development at Tegic Communications, which he himself contributed to. Tegic developed an extremely successful text input method for phones called the “T9,” and was acquired by America Online in 1999. Kashler worked for AOL for a year, but having failed to convince the Internet giant to invest in the idea of helping deaf people, he left the company. [one]
In 2002, he became the co-founder of Swype. In October 2011, the company was bought by the leader of voice communications Nuance Communications for $ 102.5 million. [6] After that, he served as vice president of information technology at Nuance Communications for several years.
