Below is a list of all the winners of the 1936 Winter Olympics , held in German Garmisch-Partenkirchen from February 6 to 16, 1936. In total, 646 athletes from 28 National Olympic Committees (NOC) took part in the competition. 17 sets of awards were played in 8 sports [1] [2] .

The Olympic program was changed from the 1932 Lake Placid Olympiad through the inclusion of competitions in alpine skiing for men and women, as well as the . There were two demonstrative sports - ice stock ( Bavarian curling ) and military patrol competitions [2] [3] . At the same time, military patrol competitions , which were a prototype of modern biathlon , appeared in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the third time as a demonstration sport at the Winter Olympics [3] . Both men and women took part in the Games, and was the first type of skiing program in which women participated in the Winter Olympics [4] . At the same time, women's single and pair figure skating were part of the Olympic program, starting with the first Winter Olympics in 1924 [5] [6] [7] .

A total of 95 athletes won medals at the Games [1] . Norway led the unofficial medal standings with fifteen medals, seven of which were gold. Sweden ranked second in the number of medals won (7), but she had one gold medal less than the owner of the Games Germany , which won three gold and six medals in total. Austria , Finland , Germany , United Kingdom , Norway , Sweden , Switzerland and the United States won medals in more than one discipline. Athletes from 11 of the 28 participating NOCs won at least a bronze medal; athletes from eight countries won at least one gold [8] . At the 1936 Winter Olympics, the United Kingdom unexpectedly won a gold medal in ice hockey , which for the British remains the only Olympic award of the highest standard in this sport to the present day [2] [9] .

Sonya Henie from Norway won her third and final Olympic gold medal in women's single figure skating [2] . Karl Schaefer from Austria also successfully defended his Olympic champion title in men's singles figure skating [8] [10] . Swedish athletes occupied the entire pedestal in , as did the Norwegians in the biathlon [8] . Norwegian Ivar Ballangrud became the most successful athlete at this Olympics, winning three gold and silver in speed skating [8] and winning 7 Olympic medals in his entire career [2] .
