Physical Characteristics

LP 768-500 was discovered in 1963 by the Dutch - American astronomer Willem Leuten in the study of stars with large proper motion [4] . It is a white dwarf with a size of about 1400 kilometers, which is slightly larger than the state of Texas (whose length is 1226 km). Despite its proximity to the solar system , the star is very dim. Its apparent magnitude is 17.66, so it is not visible to the naked eye. Like all white dwarfs, the LP 768-500 has an extremely high density - about 18 thousand tons per cubic inch. [5] The substance of a star consists of an electron-nuclear plasma, and its electronic component is a degenerate electron gas.
