Biography
Yuri Matveevich Shamaev was born on February 12, 1922 in the city of Moscow.
In 1940, after graduation, he entered Moscow State University, which the Great Patriotic War prevented from finishing. During the war years he served in the railway forces, after the war, in 1948 he successfully graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. He continued his studies at the graduate school of MPEI - at the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering. In 1951 he defended his Ph.D. on the topic: “New Methods for Oscillography of Microwaves,” and in 1966 a doctoral dissertation. Yu. M. Shamaev - a graduate of the school of Professor K. M. Polivanov (1904-1983) (head of the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering MPEI), who during these years worked as the dean of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering.
From 1961 to 1982, Yu. M. Shamaev worked as an assistant professor, professor, and head of the department of computer engineering. In 1965-1977 he was dean of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering, on his initiative, the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Department of Engineering Electrophysics were created at MPEI.
Research interests: elements and devices of computer technology, control systems, electronics, the theory of reliability, stability of the elements of logical and storage devices, optimization of developments and automation of the design of electronic computing tools. Yu. M. Shamaev performed a mathematical description of the dynamic characteristics of magnetic cores used in computers, under his guidance a mathematical description of the key modes of computers was given. In 1955, he created an arithmetic device based on the principles of conveyor processing of information on magnetodiode elements, ferrite-transistor and ferrite-diode switches for computers.
From 1958 to 1971 he collaborated with the Research Institute of Automation, lectured at Research Institute-885, at the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA, now Moscow Technological University ), at the Academy of Defense Industry, etc. In 1961, at the MPEI on the initiative of Yu. M. Shamaev was created a laboratory branch of the Research Institute of Automation. For 10 years, the laboratory was headed by Yu. M. Shamaev.
At various times, he was a member of the expert commission of the Higher Attestation Commission, an expert in the USSR State Committee for Inventions and Discoveries. In 1992 he was elected full academician of the International Academy of Informatization.
Professor Yu. M. Shamaev is the author of about 300 scientific works, books, inventions, under his guidance, 8 doctoral (I.V. Ognev S. A. Peskova and others) and about 80 master's theses were prepared and defended.
He died in 1998 in Moscow.
