General information

The museum in memory of the honorary citizen of the city of Kobe, the artist Koiso Ryohe, was opened with the aim of showing, storing and researching the artist’s work in 1992 after the Koiso family donated more than 2,000 European-style works to the city, as well as the premises of his workshop and his library . By the number of works in the collection (about 2500 items) and the size of the exhibition area (about 4000 m2), this is one of the most outstanding memorial museums in Japan.

On the territory of the museum is the Koiso Ryohei workshop, built in 1949, which was restored in its original form and transferred to the museum from Mikage (Higashi Nada district, Kobe). In addition to the three exhibition halls, the museum also has a hall with a 110 '' high-resolution screen installed in it, which constantly displays a selection of videos about Koiso Ryohei's works and masterpieces of world art .
