Since 2004, junior footings have been included in the walking World Cup program. Athletes under 20 years competed in individual and team championships at a distance of 10 km.

Thanks to the addition of two new disciplines, the tournament in Naumburg managed to set a record for the number of participants - there were more than 400 of them for the first time. 424 walkers from 54 countries (210 men, 98 women, 63 juniors and 53 juniors) took the start.

Each team could put up to five athletes in each of the adult visits and up to three in junior competitions. The best in the team standings were determined by the sum of the places of the three best athletes among adults and the two best among juniors.

Jefferson Perez from Ecuador became the first person to win 20 km walking three times in World Cups. Three more people in the history of the tournament were the first at this distance 2 times.
