Walking the Wedding
This day was filled with fun. We met guests with bread and salt, tried to treat them well, arranged games, dances, and mummers. Weddings rode noisily around the village, stole chickens, plucked, boiled and ate them [1] .
D. Chirtsov’s record contains evidence that guests after the wedding “dress up in funny clothes, pretend in different manners and drive around the village” [2] .
Search Bright
The widespread custom of “looking brightly (carcass)” consisted in theatrically acting out the loss and search for the young. In punishment for her loss, the matchmaker was wrapped in matting, tied up with ropes and taken around the village, and the matchmaker was taken in a trough, thrown with snow, beaten with a straw tourniquet. The found young woman was examined, noticed the absence of a braid and a woman’s dress on her head, after which the parents renounced their rights to her [1] .
