Biography
Andrzej Tyszkiewicz, a descendant of the count family Tyszkiewicz of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , was born on October 3, 1949 in the city of Ciechanow (now Ciechanow County , Masovian Voivodeship , Poland ). In 1973 he graduated from the school of officers in Wroclaw . Then he went to serve in the 8th Dresden Mechanized Division named after Bartosz Hłowacki, in Koszalin (now West Pomeranian Voivodeship ).
In 1979 he graduated from the MV Frunze Military Academy [2] in Moscow . After returning to Poland from 1982 to 1986. commanded the 32nd and 1st mechanized regiments. In December 1986, he was appointed chief of staff and deputy commander of the 1st Mechanized Division, and since October 1987 - commander of the 6th Airborne Brigade in Krakow .
In 1990 he graduated with honors from the Academy of the General Staff of the USSR and continued his service in the Warsaw Military District. In 1990-1992 - chief of the operations department, then chief of staff. In 1993, Tyszkiewicz was awarded the rank of brigadier general.
In 1994, he was appointed head of the group of military inspectors at the General Staff of the Polish Army.
From July 1995 to January 1999 he served as a military attaché in Turkey. In 1999, he was appointed military representative of Poland at the NATO Allied Headquarters in Europe.
In 2000, Tishkevich was awarded the title of Major General. Since September 2002, he was deputy commander of the ground forces of the Polish Army.
In 2003, for several months he commanded the Polish military contingent in Iraq [3] . In January 2004, he was promoted to the rank of General of Armor (analogue of the Lieutenant General) [4] .
In 2005, by decree of the President of Poland, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Bosnia and Herzegovina [5] [6] .
From July 2011 [2] to 2013 he was the head of the mission of the European Union in Georgia [7] [8] [9] . April 25, 2012 [10] declared a persona non grata in Abkhazia [11] [12] .
Fluent in Polish, English and Russian.
