Publication History

The character’s first appearance occurred in The Punisher Vol. 7, # 31 (May 2006), its creators were Garth Ennis and artist Goran Pavlov .

During a panel talk at the Wizard World comic book convention in Philadelphia, Ennis called the Stagger Lee song about “the big scary man and the terrible things he does to people” the foundation on which Barracuda was created [1] .

Barracuda was featured in a story arc lasting from # 31 through # 36 of The Punisher Vol. 7. Initially, this was to be his only appearance, but at the insistence of the editor Ennis saved the life of the character [1] . Later, Barracuda was included in the five-episode miniseries The Punisher Presents: Barracuda , death overtook him in the episodes of The Punisher Vol. 7. From 10 to 12 Fury: MAX Vol. 1 Barracuda appeared in flashbacks dedicated to his life in South America in the 1980s .

Fictional Character Biography

Barracuda was born in Boynton Beach in the family of an African American and a mulatto, grew up in Boca Raton. During World War II, his father served in the 827th Tank Destroyer Battalion . Later, the father, who became an alcoholic, left the family, before leaving, grilling Barracuda’s hand on the grill. At one time, Barracuda took care of his younger brother (later died) and sister (became a prostitute and drug addict).

During a school fight, he squeezed his opponent's eyes out , while he was in the juvenile correctional center he was able to castrate a potential attacker. After that, he was recruited by the American army in the 1980s. as a green beret , the CIA helped establish the dictatorial regime of Leopold Moon in South America . In addition, Barracuda took part in organized contra and CIA shipments of cocaine from Nicaragua to the United States , and also suppressed the resistance of local peasants; Colonel Nick Fury, who was investigating these events, he hinted that nothing could come of this because of the reluctance of Congress and the CIA to turn over many people. After that, in Central America, the team defected , five years later, Fury tracked down and attacked Barracuda [2] . According to the memoirs of the latter, during the mission in Africa he was engaged in cannibalism .

After leaving military service, Barracuda became a dangerous bandit. Once he was detained at the site of a mass slaughter of criminals, where he sniffed cocaine tracks from several heads of those killed. After spending a fair amount of time in prison, he began working for Dynaco CEO Harry Ebbing.

The Fight against the Punisher

Years later, Harry Ebbing hires him to kill the Punisher investigating Dynaco. A top manager plans to sabotage Florida's power grid for profit, but the Punisher wants to prevent the death of many innocent people.

During the battle, Barracuda defeats the hero, although he loses the eye and fingers of his right hand. He takes the loser out to sea to feed the local sharks , but the Punisher secretly manages to survive. In the future, the mercenary takes an active part in the activities of Dynaco and becomes a trusted person of Ebbing. In the final battle, the Punisher drowns the ship with the leadership of the corporation, which sharks eat, only he and Barracuda survive.

Eminem / The Punisher

He is a character in the comic strip Eminem / Punisher: Kill You, released in June 2009, created by Fred van Lente and artist Salvador Larocca. In the story, the Parents Music Resource Center was hired to kill the rapper Eminem , whom he was friends with as a child [3] .

Marvel Noir

At Punisher Noir, Barracuda works for the gangster Bumpy Johnson during the Prohibition era, engaged in the destruction of competitors' nightclubs. Together with Dzhigso and Russian was hired to kill grocer Frank Castiglione, who defied the Dutch Schulz [4] . Years later, he was killed on Coney Island by his son Frank, who became the Punisher [5] .

Space: Punisher

In this version, Barracuda is a water alien and drug dealer associated with Ruka [6] [7] .
