Governor of Saint Helena is the representative of the monarch of the United Kingdom on the islands of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha , which are British overseas territories in the southern Atlantic Ocean . The governor is appointed by the monarch on the proposal of the UK Government .

The governor is de facto the head of the islands of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cugna , as well as de jure the head of government and the supreme commander of this territory. His responsibilities include ensuring internal security and justice, foreign policy, finance, shipping, as well as employment and disciplinary measures against government officials.
The governor of St. Helena has his own flag. It is a flag of Great Britain , in the center of which is the emblem of the territory .
History
Since the colonization of the territory in 1659, it has been managed by the British East India Company . In 1834, St. Helena became a colony of Great Britain , and since then the governor has been appointed its monarch.
Until 2009, the territory was called the “Island of St. Helena and Territory” ( eng. Saint Helena and Dependencies ). In accordance with the new Constitution, adopted in 2009, it was renamed the “Islands of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha” ( English Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha ), however, the name of the post of its head remained unchanged - “ Governor of St. Helena. "
